Closer Yesterday Marie the Loan Officer sent me a big list of everything we needed to take care of in the next few days. Well, not really a "big" list... Now that I look at it again, there are only six items. But after spending a few minutes tonight writing such required items as "Letter of Explanation As To Why I Still Have a VA Drivers License" and "Letter of Explanation Regarding Any Credit Inquiries in the Past 90 Days", I think we're almost done! Their appraiser or whoever had to go back out to the building and verify that the balcony had been completed (because my telling them that I'd seen it with my own eyes wasn't good enough) and we got all the crap straightened out as far as what they needed from my parents, so the only thing left is the Robert Half part. She kept telling me "An offer letter would suffice" but I'm at least two months away from that. I'm not going to waltz in there and demand that right now. I like this job a lot and I'd like to keep it. My favorite recruiter at Robert Half has actually been working - on her vacation - to get me the information and contacts I need. (How awesome is she still??) Today she sent me an example of a letter they'd sent to a mortgage company for someone else in my same situation and asked if that would be enough. I sent it to Marie and she's still waiting to hear. Man, let's hope that will work! After that, it should be smooth sailing through to closing! Oh! I reserved my movers today! I set it up so that they are expecting to do at least some packing and basically I just pay them the same hourly rate for everything they do while I have them - packing and moving. The only downside is: Now that I know I don't absolutely have to pack, I'll probably get less done. But hey... I still say it's worth the money! Especially after I found out about how much more it would be! (Not as much as I thought!) By the way, if it seems like I only ever post about the condo anymore, that's because there's really nothing much else going on, in case you couldn't tell by The World's Most Depressing 4th of July. In bed or Except in bed??? OK, I'm going to try a new tradition. Whenver I have Chinese food I'm going to post my fortune cookie here in my LJ. Not sure why. Just sounded like something I should do. Tonight we ordered from Super Wok and I drove out in the torrential rains to score us some Hot and Sour Soup and General Tso's Chicken (and Sweet & Sour chicken for the kids). My fortune cookie for tonight: There is a prospect of a thrilling time ahead of you. jegie's fortune: The trouble with resisting temptation is it may never come again Current Mood: contemplative |

Last in translation From the back of my Ajishima brand dried salmon furikake rice seasoning:
"Eight decades from nowadays, fishermen's life were miserable in Japan. They used those leftover of fishes, shrimps and crabs, from their catches cooking together with seasonings for preservation. After World War II, Japan's economy and living standard, has quickly raised to the top of the world. An old man innovated this nutritious food by using top grade ingredient, hi-tech process and put it in a fine package. The market quickly accepts the new product. It's now the most popular food dressings of daily family meals."
So if this company is so successful, don't you think they could pay a proper English translator? I'm usually pretty good with broken English, but man, this stuff makes no sense to me. It reads like Rosie O'Donnell's blog... |

never never done I don't have anything exciting to say, but I just felt like it had been a long time since I posted. I am done classes for two weeks, except I have about 1/3 of my take-home final left to do. I am busy planning a trip to Canada, and then when I get back, we have Leah's family reunion to go to, and classes start up again.
As is my habit before a vacation, I went clothes shopping yesterday and spent WAY too much money. It was fun though... I haven't really done a big shopping trip like that in a while.
We have been using our complex's pool this year, for the first time since I've lived here. It has been really nice and relaxing. Especially today... the weather made me headachey and crabby.
I just finished reading Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It was so interesting... totally made me want a garden, or at least to be better about going to the farmers market. We'll see if it happens... |

Drawback of the Best Seat in the House: It's still in the house I didn't go anywhere last night to watch fireworks, but apparently there was a pretty decent show a few blocks north of my apartment that I could actually view while sitting on my couch! There's a one second delay on my cell phone camera from the time you click the button to the time it actually snaps the picture and that made it exceedingly difficult to get a good picture, but this one turned out ok. I think it's kind of cool how you can see the window panes and even the horizontal lines of the blinds going across. |

Public Transportation Rocks I bought gas today for the first time since June 12. (Just checked my bank statement.) And I probably used up most of that last tank June 18-23 when my brother was here and I drove us everywhere. Otherwise, I would've been able to go way over a month, I think. Maybe I won't need to buy gas again until August!
It's also kind of cool to have a nearly ten year old car (1999) with less than 100K miles on it. (I don't even think it's at 99K yet.) Thanks, years of telecommuting, unemployment, and now public transportation!

Lunch with mom- Today, I went out to lunch with my mom & nana. We went to D Brian's. This might be one of my favorite places to lunch, I get the - Veggie Hummus Avocado Wrap - Ripe avocado, mushrooms, sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes, and sunflower nuts in a spinach wrap. (OMG NUMMY!) Plus it was good to see nana, she had a doctors appointment this morning and had some melanoma scraped off the bridge of her nose. I guess it is a regular thing for her, she had two spots scraped off last year too. My mom said they usually catch them before they get to big and the cancer has never spread. Nana was all concerned that she didn't have a full physical and she was not understanding that she saw a skin doctor and not a general practitioner. Later we went walking through Kohls and since my mom worked in intimate apparel for like 25ish years she loves to peruse that department. I was saying something about always being busty and she giggled. She then proceeded to tell me about a time when I was about 6 or 7 and I came home crying my eyes out. When she asked me why I was crying I told her that the kids in the neighborhood had been saying that 'my chest was as flat as plywood minnesota.' She admitted that her and my dad laughed about that for years. ** For those of you who are not from Minnesota and/or are not old enough to remember- Home Valu Interiors used to be called Plywood Minnesota and in the early 80's they were pretty popular. ** |

testing mobile posting (yay, it works again!) Suddenly, tentative plans to travel to Canada have become a full week's schedule. And the following Monday, classes start up again (at least with a less hectic schedule than the last 3 weeks). |

Good idea or just plain lazy? I was just looking over the website for Local Motion, a moving company (Original) Alan suggested. In addition to moving services, they also offer packing services. Hmm... I wouldn't make such a decision when I'm this tired, but I am SO tempted to get them to pack everything in addition to moving everything. Not sure what the price difference is if they pack too, but wouldn't it probably be worth it??? That would totally take all the suck out of moving. |

Is this normal?? Yesterday morning I baked some plain chicken breasts before work and I was eating bites of it for breakfast (yeah, I need to go to the grocery store) while cutting up the rest of it for lunch. While chewing up one bite I coughed or sneezed or breathed weird or something like that and it felt like a chunk of chicken went up my nose from the back of my throat. It was the weirdest sensation.
My first thought was "Did that chunk of chicken just get sucked inside my head somehow??? Is that even possible???" And then I thought "If that really happened, how would I ever get it out?? Would it rot in there and make my head smell?? Could it become toxic and kill me?? Will I have to explain this to a doctor at some point??" I paused for a moment and swallowed a few times and I didn't feel anything, so I figured it just felt like that had happened because my allergies have been so incredibly, annoyingly terrible lately.
I finished packing my lunch and then continued to get ready for work. A few minutes later I sniffed (I've been doing that a lot lately with these damn allergies) and all of a sudden a chunk of chicken was in the back of my mouth!!!! I totally HAD somehow choked it up the back of my nose. I have no idea how I did it. Hell, I didn't even know that was possible. I mean, I knew everything was connected, but not with canals big enough for chicken chunks!
Am I deformed back there?? Is that like the grossest thing ever?? |

Is there really no such thing as a free lunch??? So, I went to my beloved El Toro today to pick up my awesome $4.60 lunch. After waiting about 2 minutes, the cashier handed me my bag, said something under her breath and would not take my debit card.
Me: "What?" Her: "You're here all of the time, I know you're good for it". (Yeah, they know me by name at lunchtime) Me: "But I can pay" Her: "Nahhhh" Me: "Really?" Her: "Have a good weekend!"
Wierd.

Coming down off the water tower. OK, so someone at my office just phoned me up to apologize for "venting" at me earlier because someone else got their new computer before he did (as in I installed theirs at lunch and was going to install his this afternoon, but OH NO THAT'S NOT CONVENIENT FOR HIM! WHY DIDN'T I CALL HIM FIRST AND INSTALL HIS OVER LUNCH AND NOT HERS!?!?!?). I am actually very surprised the knucklehead apologized at all. He must be developing a human personality or something... Or he noticed me scratching his name onto that bullet... Current Mood: angry |

It's Manual, Actually I went to see Wall-E with bigbluejoe last night. It was super cute and I highly recommend it. The funny part was the boy who sat behind us was a little.... slow (not quite short bus slow but definitely not bright). He kept making dumb comments and trying to figure out the plot aloud. When one character was having trouble reading "manual" and kept pronouncing it "Manuel" (like the name) the kid behind us pipes up "Um, it's MANUAL, actually". I so wanted to say "They can't hear you, actually". Anyway, it makes for a funny story. |

Wrapping up some Things Last week, my car sort of fell apart at the dealership and I had doctors appointments. Friday, still no car and I came home (after 5:30pm) to a message from my doctor office asking me to call them. So, we did not finish the week on a good note and I had something to keep out of my head all weekend.
All weekend, wulfgyrand I cleaned Z's room. Basically, we removed everything from his room (with the exception of furniture) and put it all in the family and dining room. All I can say is "WOW. He had a lot of crap!". We then made him go through everything we took out (a-la "Cloean Sweep") and decide what he wouls keep, trash or donate. By the time we were done on Sunday, his room looked great and the rest of the house is pretty trashed. Oh well.
Monday, I called the doctor's office and it seems that I need to retake one of my tests. Of course it was the painful test, blecch... Tuesday, I took the painful test and it was all good. Then I wrote a big-ass check for the car and drove to work. It was amazing, it was cool in the car and the steering wheel actually worked!!! Current Mood: thankfulCurrent Music: Office Noise |

Friends Sometimes I wonder how people are doing. Like today I was wondering how Lola the Dog was doing, so I emailed sugarbeet to ask. And I've been wondering a lot how hoye99 is doing with her new baby. I e'd her a few times, but I know she's busy. Oh, hey! And I found out that Jesse, my "new Alan", has a LJ. He's rakafkaven. Any of you know him? Got dirt on him? (PS. Hi, Jesse.) I played Webkinz some over the weekend. I found some new stupidly addictive games to suck me in and make lots of Kinz Cash. With my addict's cash, I bought two new rooms for my Webkinz house, a hockey room and a winter wonderland room. I know, I know... you're all shocked. I can't find the hockey floor though. I have the walls and some hockey puck chairs and hockey stick tables and such, but no hockey floor. I've looked in the W-Shop and the Curio Shop. I have the snow floor and ice walls for my winter room. See how exciting my life is lately? Webkinz and wondering how people are doing who actually have lives. Well, there's the condo, but it's not like I've started packing or anything. Andrew asks me every time he calls if I've started packing and I just laugh. I guess he doesn't know me very well yet. Oh, and I got up at 7:30am on Sunday. I took a nap later in the day, but I was still totally proud that I kept way more closely than usual to my weekday schedule. I'm feeling random and listless tonight. Sometimes when I'm tending my massive Webkinz garden I think "I wish I had a real garden." But then I realize that it would take longer than five minutes per day to tend it. And it's hot outside these days. Well, for here. Just 80s. Current Mood: listless |

Productivity I had a totally lazy weekend, by the way. Jesse, my "new Alan", had suggested Great Harvest bakery to me a few weeks ago when he shared some pepperoni loaf from there, so I headed over there to try a few things. WOW! Delicious. Pricey, but worth it. Anyway, I had all these little stupid five minute tasks piled up, but never mustered the energy to get them done even though I had all day Saturday and Sunday. Well, a few involved calling creditors (canceling unnecessary services and asking for lower interest rates - nothing bad) and such and I tried those but got the message saying I needed to call during business hours. So tonight after work I got a bunch of those little stupid five minute tasks done and I felt really good about it. It's funny how less than an hour of productivity - even after wasting an entire weekend - can make you feel somewhat better. I wish I would spend that much time every day getting little stupid tasks done. It adds up. You know? |

Rent-No-More Fun fact: I wrote my last rent check last night.
I sure wish I'd hear back from the mortgage company. Last week they said it should only take four days or so to get the official word on my mortgage. That's the only thing making me hesitant to accept the idea of the condo for real, though I've mostly accepted it. Everything else is in place. I've heard that if you can pass pre-qual, you're pretty much in, but I'd like the official word. You know? |
